Powerlines & Substations
- Most health research is based on measured electromagnetic fields, not distance , from powerlines and substations. You can measure the fields you are concerned about with the PRO meter. It is designed for the non-scientific person to be able to use easily. The meter comes with simple instructions as to how to use it and the field levels associated with health problems so you can compare these levels with the readings you take.
- There are cables going into and out of substations. The ones going in may be overhead or underground. The ones leaving the substation will usually be underground. These can give off very high fields near to them, including in your property if they run close to the building or garden.
- If you are thinking of buying a property near a powerline, "Buying an EMF safe Property" (available through the Powerwatch Subscription Service) enables you to find out all you need to make an informed decision about whether to go ahead. If you already live near a powerline, the book helps you to discover the things you can do to reduce any fields that you believe are too high.
- Take measurements of the places in your home where you (will) spend a lot of your time: On the sofa in the living room, on the chair in front of your computer, on your pillow in your bed - these are some of the places where it is important that field levels are low.
- If you become a subscriber, you will have access to most of our publications online, and a range of well-researched articles, which are being added to regularly, covering a variety of subjects. As a subscriber, you can also ask our experts questions about your own circumstances, or get more technical information that is not covered in the publications and articles.
