Further InformationBed canopies can be easily and quickly fixed in place. They are portable, so you can take them with you if you move house. You may be able to take them on holiday or when visiting other people, but the ceiling hook may limit temporary re-location. The canopy needs to be fixed so that it touches the floor all round, to prevent microwaves entering the room and bouncing off the floor into the bed canopy. The canopy should be earthed to prevent the material picking up electric fields from the ceiling or floor wiring. People who are electrically sensitive can feel quite ill in high electric fields. If you do not earth the canopy, the electric fields that could be re-radiated from the material may make you feel as ill as the microwaves the canopy shields you against. Earthing the canopy will minimise your electric field exposure. This can be done easily with a length of wire taped to the canopy and attached to the bare metal of an earth-bonded radiator, or to the earthing circuit of the house via an ordinary socket. Using a mobile phone is NOT a good way of testing a canopy's effectiveness. Please read this article to see why. |
