Screening Material - Silver Bobbinet

[View User Feedback]

Our screening material is silver-plated (non-allergenic) bobbinet material, woven for durability, which stops over 99% of incoming microwave radiation energy (see graphs) - a range that encompasses all three mobile phone bands (including TETRA and 3G). It also protects against the new WiFi frequencies used in wireless computing networks, although the graph has not yet been updated to show the exact levels. It is light grey in colour, very lightweight and easy to fix. It is 1.80 metres (slightly less than 6 feet) wide and is sold by the metre. You can order any amount you like above 1 metre (e.g. 3.6 metres), but 1 metre is the minimum order length. You need to attach the material to the wall-edge of the windowframe to ensure microwaves do not enter the room through the frame, although aluminium frames will screen the radiation.

Since the 1970s occupational exposure to microwaves has been linked to the adverse health effects shown in the table on the right.

These effects were discovered before the general public became exposed to microwaves as a result of the phenomenal increase in mobile phone masts, base stations, cordless phones and WiFi.

Despite reassurances from the mobile phone system operators and some government officials that this radiation is safe, local communities are reporting the same health effects arising wherever a mast springs up. Planning regulations seem to be unable to stop the spread of masts.

If you suspect that you, or members of your family, may be experiencing health problems as a result of mast exposure, you can protect them from microwaves coming into your home, with the material you can see in the picture.

The material is very lightweight, easy to sew by hand and can be sewn by machine with care. It does not fray easily, is quite robust, and can be hung like ordinary net curtains. You can make a small hem and thread plastic coated wire through it, using hook and eye fasteners at each end. You can also use velcro that you stick to the window frame and sew on to the material - separate carefully any time the curtain is moved. Blu-tack (or equivalent) can be used as a temporary fixture, but it does degrade over time and will be very difficult to remove from the material.

Screening material hung at the windows will not need earthing as it does not pick up and re-radiate electric fields from house wiring.

It stops over 99% of incoming microwave radiation from 2G, 3G and TETRA systems, while it lets in over 90% of daylight.

Lengths of material can be joined together, using a small (1 cm) overlap seam. Because of its bobbinet structure, the material can be hung either way.

The shielding effectiveness of the material will be reduced with overhandling.

If you wish to refresh the material, use a damp sponge to remove dust, etc. This should be adequate. The material should not be washed unless absolutely necessary as this will almost certainly reduce its shielding effectiveness. If you have to wash it, use a soap-based product that is not sulphur-based and does not contain bleach. As the material is flammable it must not be dried near sources of direct heat, nor should it be dried in a tumble drier. The material is 1.80m wide, and the price above is for one linear metre.

The same new technology is also being used in digital cordless (DECT) phones. Having one of these in your house is like having your own mast beaming out microwaves 24 hours a day. Even if you do not have one, your neighbour might, and as microwaves travel through walls, you could be exposed to quite high levels of radiation.

The material could also be used as a screen on the wall between you and your neighbour's phone. Our carbon paint is another option if this is your situation.
