Screening Material - Cotton Electrocloth

Screening Material - Cotton Electrocloth

The electrocloth material is made of cotton and stainless steel. It stops over 99% of incoming microwave radiation energy up to 5GHz and over 98% at frequencies higher than this (see graphs) - a range that encompasses all three mobile phone bands (including 3G) TETRA, and most WiFi frequencies. It is stone/light beige in colour, and easy to sew. It is 1.44 metres wide and is sold by the metre. You can order 1/10 of metre increments above 1 metre (e.g. 2.4, 3.6 or 5.2 metres), but 1 metre is the minimum order length. The material is suitable for curtain linings, roller blind linings, and can be used to make bedlinen or clothing.

Occupational exposure to microwaves has been linked to the adverse health effects shown in the table on the right.

These effects were discovered before the general public became exposed to microwaves as a result of the phenomenal increase in mobile phone masts, base stations, cordless phones and WiFi.

Despite reassurances from the mobile phone system operators and some government officials that this radiation is safe, local communities are reporting the same health effects arising wherever a mast springs up. Planning regulations seem to be unable to stop the spread of masts.

If you suspect that you, or members of your family, may be experiencing health problems as a result of mast exposure, you can protect them from microwaves coming into your home, with the material you can see in the picture. It stops over 99% of incoming microwave radiation from 2G, 3G and TETRA systems.

The same new technology is also being used in digital cordless (DECT) phones. Having one of these in your house is like having your own mast beaming out microwaves 24 hours a day. Even if you do not have one, your neighbour might, and as microwaves travel through walls, you could be exposed to quite high levels of radiation.

If your neighbour has WiFi, you may be exposed to RF from the router, which is often placed in the window near the phone socket. BT claim the signal extends 'line of sight' over 100 metres, it will certainly be up to 50 metres.

The material is very robust, easy to sew and does not fray easily. You can use it to line the curtain materials you already have, or as a lining for a rollerblind. Some microwave radiation will enter the room from an external source through the gaps around the screening material, but the emissions will be greatly reduced. The material is 1.44m wide, and the price above is for one linear metre.

Screening material hung at the windows will not need earthing as it does not pick up and re-radiate electric fields from house wiring.

The material can also be used to make bedlinen such as sheets, duvet covers or sleeping bag liners. It can be used underneath your mattress to prevent microwaves coming into your bed from below. You can make pyjamas, blouses, shirts, and other items of clothing from the material. (see left for a picture of a shirt made by a tailor for one of our customers).

Lengths of material can be joined together, using a small (1 cm) overlap seam.

The material can be washed by hand when necessary. We have not tested the material to the point of "destruction" yet so cannot say how many times it is safe to wash before reduction in its effectiveness happens. We recommend you only wash as needed.

The material could also be used as a screen on the wall between you and your neighbour's phone or WiFi. If you have detected incoming microwave radiation from your neighbour, our carbon paint is another option if this is your situation.
